Ben Maher wins GP with Chellano Z son

10 / 10 / 2018
Ben Maher ended the first week of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour’s autumn edition in Oliva by securing the win in the two-star Grand Prix. With 50 participants on the start list, only 8 combinations managed to reach the jump-off. The time allowed turned out to be the biggest challenge in the first round with no less than 9 horse-and-rider combinations who fell victim to the clock and consequently didn’t make it to the jump-off. As second last to go, Ben Maher and his eight-year-old Cirus du Ruisseau Z (Chellano Z x Carthago Z) produced an impressive jump-off in 41.42 seconds, which eventually would become the winning round of the Grand Prix. Ben and Cirus win their second GP victory in just as many months. They also gained a third place on Thursday’s GP qualifier. In the other GP qualification there was a fifth place for the British Taisie de Gruchy with Winner of Picobello Z (BV Projects Edinburgh x T'is Voltaire) owing to one time point in the first round.

At 1.40m level, the fifth place went to Leonie Peeters with Comme One Z (Comme d'Api vd Hacienda Z x Kannan), followed by Jodie Hall McAteer with Coquin De Coquerie Z (Consul DL Vie Zx Fergar Mail) in sixth place.

In the 1.30m leveled accumulator the Italian rider Stefano Nogaro piloted Navarone (Nelson Z x Wolfgang) to the win, after a fifth place in Friday’s 1.35m class and a seventh place on Thursday. Kayleigh Watts finished in second place with Ninkie de Vy Z (Nonstop x Fidji du Fleury) in the speed class. Ulrike Bruns took fourth place with Cinderella Z (Carrera VDL x Quidam de Revel). At 1.25m level, the American Sophie Gracida became second with the seven-year-old Diamond WP Z (Diamant de Semilly x Caretino).

Check Me Z (Cosun x Phin Phin) and Ausra Valuckyte won at the five-year-olds. At the six-year-olds, Bethanie Knight was second with Topmodel Van Overis Z (H & M Tornesch 1042 x Diamant de Semilly). Sidney Eras and Niagara de Muze Z (Nabab de Reve x Rincon As) took fourth place. Fabienne Daigneux-Lange and her seven-year-old Levisto Z offspring Leon of the Paddocks Z also finished fourth after a double clears in his age group.
