Major win for Christian Ahlmann & Take A Chance On Me Z in Paris!

08 / 07 / 2019
Talking about a perfect week! On July 1, Judy Ann Melchior and Christian Ahlmann welcomed their baby daughter Ella Maria and a few days later Christian gained two major wins in the Longines Global Champions Tour of Paris. While riding on a pink cloud the man from Marl was on cloud nine.

In the city of love, right next to the world-famous Eiffel Tower, 7 out of the 34 participants were advanced to the all-deciding jump-off. For a while it seemed to become a female moment with Celine Schoonbroodt-de Azevedo (Cheppetta) provisionally on one, Pénélope Leprévost (GFE Excalibur de la Tour Vidal) provisionally on two and Kim Emmen (Delvaux) provisionally on three. But they hadn’t counted on Christian Ahlmann and his ten-year-old Z stallion Take A Chance On Me Z, who were very determined to take their chance. As second last to go, they put down a dazzling round. Christian's jump-off experience dragged Take A Chance On Me Z along and in the tightest turns they finished more than a second faster! Kevin Staut (Calevo 2) made every effort to win on home soil, but had to settle for third place after Celine Schoonbroodt-de Azevedo, who rode her first GCT show.

Afterwards Christian said: “I can't be happier and more proud of my horse than today. He already jumped fantastic in the qualifier and now he also takes his first Grand Prix win. A GCT Grand Prix is never easy, so I was prepared for a big GP. I don’t know Take A Chance On Me Z so well in this kind of classes, but we have grown together more and more. Today I had a fantastic feeling. Also in the really difficult lines, he was with me and was concentrated to jump very good. He is one of my best horses for the future.”

Take A Chance On Me Z is the very first horse that Judy Ann Melchior has ever bred and that’s why she also deserves a lot of praise. Only ten years later, her first colt by Taloubet Z out of Abba Z (Aldatus) already won one of the world’s most difficult GPs. The future looks bright.

After Julien Epaillard, Jérôme Guery, Pieter Devos, Danielle Goldstein Waldman, Martin Fuchs, Daniel Deusser, Niels Bruynseels, Peder Fredricson and Maikel Van der Vleuten, Christian Ahlmann is the 10th rider who managed to qualify for the Super Grand Prix in Prague in November.

Also triple win for Eden Leprévost Blinlebreton

Eden Leprévost Blinlebreton, the 15-year-old daughter of Pénélope Leprévost, also pulled a big stunt in Paris. Christian Ahlman was good for a double win in Saturday’s and Sunday’s main classes with Take A Chance On Me Z and with Ailina 6. But home lady rider Eden won no less than all three classes in which she participated in Paris! She showed off together with Copacabana of the Paddocks Z, a son of Coriano Z x Papillon Rouge who was bred by Anthony Mornie from Ghent. After Friday’s 1.20m-1.25m class with two phases, they also became first in Saturday’s 1.30m jump-off and in Sunday’s 1.30m speed class. Eden is clearly well on her way to follow in her mother's footsteps.
