Z-horses claim the Belgian prizes

05 / 11 / 2018
Both in the Belgian Lier and in the Belgian Liège the Z-horses jumped convincingly last weekend.
In Liège the success started on Thursday in the first CSI4* class where Jos Verlooy and Cor-Leon vd Vlierbeek Z effortlessly finished second. This Cor-Leon is an eight-year-old son of Calvaro Z bred by Chris & Eva Anné-De Maeyer and no stranger to the international circuit. On top of his second place, he gained a 4th place in the CSI4* 1m45 class on Friday, followed by a 7th place in the CSI4* 1m40 class on Saturday. And these results are no exception: last week Verlooy and Cor-Leon vd Vlierbeek Z finished second twice in the 1m40 classes of CSI2* Kronenberg!

Diadarco van Evendael Z and Koen Vereecke also showed their good form. This brown gelding bred by Hendrik Opdecam triumphed in the CSI4* 1m45 class on Saturday and thus claimed his 16th international victory this year. On Friday, the duo achieved 6th place in the CSI4* 1m40 class.

On Saturday, there was a fifth place in the 1m50 main class for Lucia Le Jeune Vizzini and Cabalgaro Z. This Calvados Z-son saw the light of day at Michel Frigot’s and recently jumped his first World Cup. For Anne Claire Breton and Chopin du Chateau Hollogne Z there was a 9th place in this 1m50 class. This son of HH Copin van de Broy was bred by Philippe Lucas and comes out of a half sister to Cian O'Connor's famous Good Luck (Canturo).

In the main class on Sunday, the 1m60 Grand Prix, Pedro Junqueira Muylaert and Prince Royal Z MF S took third place. This son of Prince de Revel was bred by Ricardo & Marleen Kierkegaard-Melchior and qualified for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon where he jumped an impressive clear round in the individual competition. For Katharina Offel and JK Horsetrucks Leasure Z (Levisto Z - B: Stoeterij Zangersheide) there was a 6th place in this Grand Prix.

The young Z-horses also had a good start at CSIYH* Liège. Cipollini Second Life Z (Carthago Z - B: Thierry Hendrikx), Very High de Muze Z (Vigo d'Arsouilles - B: Joris De Brabander), Titus Z (Toulon - B: HJ Lamers-van Ingen), Quincasco van 't Koningshof Z (Quinar - B: Jan Jochems), Air Montain Z (Air Ship Z - B: M. & R. Melchior - Kierkegaard) and Canora Z (Clintissimo Z - B: Jeroen Lepouttre) immediately started with a clear round in the class for 6- and 7-year-old horses. In the CSI1* Laetitia Surin and Carlina des Vergers Z (Clapton VDL - B: Haras des Vergers) kicked off with a 7th place in the 1m30 on Thursday. They ended with a fourth place in the 1m35 on Sunday. On Friday there was a second place in the 1m25 for Stéphanie d'Andrimont with D-Day de Lison Z (Darco), just ahead of Carla Arcq and Quint Z (Quintessence Z). Also the 9th place was for a Z-horse thanks to Laurent Thirion and Berline du Maillet Z (Berlin). On Saturday, Jonathan Soquet and For Yougsters (For Pleasure) achieved a 3rd place in the 1m30.

In Lier, on the other hand, a CSI2* was scheduled. Here Qanuk Z, Tinkoucha Hero Z and Booming Blue Z were able to take a strong start on Thursday. Qanuk Z, a Quintero ASK-son out of the breeding of Spronken BVBA started with a 6th place in the 1m40 on Thursday and also achieved a 6th place in the 1m35 under the saddle of Sam Polleunis on Sunday. Also Tinkoucha Hero Z, bred by Luc Henry, started with a 6th place in the 1m40. This daughter of Tinka's Boy already gained numerous classifications under the saddle of Leonie Peeters and is certainly a mare to keep an eye on. Booming Blue Z achieved a 7th place under the saddle of Abbe Burchmore-Eames in the same class. This Berlin-daughter was bred by Horsestud Thijs and also obtained a 12th and a 13th place in CSI2 * Lier.

On Friday it was Thibeau Spits and Bellissimo Z that noted a top performance. The duo finished second in the 1m45 class on Friday and also did not disappoint in the CSI2* Grand Prix on Sunday... Then Spits and the chestnut mare bred by Patrick Sebrechts finished third!

In addition, Sam Polleunis and Be Cute van de Wolfsakker Z (Bamako de Muze) gained a 6th place in the 1m40 while Lander de Bruyn and Nabeau of Migroveld Z (Nabab de Reve) achieved a 9th place. For Angelina van 't Klein Asdonk Z (Andiamo Z) and Manfredi Macchiarella there was a 6th place in the 1m30 on Saturday.

In the CSIYH* Lier, the Zangersheide horses performed even better... Maartje Verberckmoes and Dancing Queen JT Z (Diarado) gained a fifth place in the final for 7-year-old horses after their third place on Saturday, while Therese Sohol Henriksen and Leonardo di Caprio Z (SIEC Livello) became 8th in this final.

The final for 6-year old horses was in turn won by Lander De Bruyn with Maxx de Nyze Z, a son of Mr. Blue bred by Danny Nijs. Also places 3, 6 and 8 in this final went to Z-horses thanks to Christophe Vanderhasselt with Pikap de Muze Z (Ponsee V), Chloe Winchester with Quasmo CK Z (Quasimodo Z) and Jasmin Ranta-Aho with Zinedine Zidane Z (Zambesi).

But also in the other classes the young Z-horses jumped excellently in Lier! For example, Nina Fagerström and No Secret Z (Nonstop) gained a 9th place in the class for 7-year old horses on Saturday, while Empress EH Z (Emerald van 't Ruytershof) and Dimme d'Haese finished third in the class for 7-year-old horses on Friday. For Evita de Wijnendale Z (Elvis ter Putte) and Aymeric Bray there was an 8th place in the class for 6-year old horses on Thursday.
