Ahlmann not the winner but most regular rider in GCT 2013

27 / 11 / 2013
It all looked so well. Christian Ahlmann held second place in the ranking before the finals of the Global Champions Tour thanks to, amongst others, Taloubet Z and Asca Z. On Aragon Z he went again clear in the first round of the finals at Al Shaqab (Doha). His closest competitors Laura Kraut, Luciana Diniz and Edwina Tops-Alexander did not. None of them made it to the second round, but there were more competitors. Scott Brash, for example. He jumped with a double clear to the jump-off. Ahlmann had a time penalty in the second round and placed himself just behind the top three in fourth place in the finals. In the end Scott Brash managed to win both the finals and the ranking. However, Christian Ahlmann had clearly done better in the GCT this year. He started nine times and reached the second round eight times. Of his eleven starts, Brash jumped the second round six times. Brash became leader of the ranking because under the rules only the six best results are taken into account to determine the final winner. This rule was implemented by the FEI to protect the status of its own Furusiyya Nations Cup competition. Nevertheless Christian Ahlmann earned a nice 235,000 euro with his GCT finals in Doha. Harrie Smolders and Regina Z (Rex Z) won the main class on Friday and finished second on Thursday in the big tour.
