Ahlmann wins, Papillon Z fifth in Bazel GP

11 / 01 / 2016
Christian Ahlmann is floating on a cloud. After three World Cup victories in a row he now also claimed the GP of Bazel, a lucrative 1.60m gala class with the world top on the starting list. Ahlmann rode Codex One, who this time earned him 100,000 Swiss Franks. Penelope Leprevost finished in second place, Luciana Diniz in third place. Ahlmann was the only one to stay clear three times. For Belgium, Jerome Guery just about reached the second round after one jumping fault in the first. In the second round, though, he jumped the fastest clear round and so he and Papillon Z (Perhaps) climbed up to the fifth place. Another top result for the breeding product from Helga Guisson, the wife of Alexander Liefsoens. Meanwhile Papillon Z is virtually placed for the Olympics, but we still have to wait for the outcome of the final individual Olympic ranking in early March. Whether Papillon Z will actually fly to Rio also depends on the decisions of the federation, the national coach and, of course, that of rider Jerome Guery himself. Also in Bazel there were two fine podium places for Daniel Deusser and Comtesse vh Ertsenhof Z (Calvaro Z). On Saturday they finished second in the speed class. The combination was beaten by Emanuele Gaudiano. On Friday Comtesse had already finished fourth in a 1.45m class. In the opening class on Thursday, the fast Laura Renwick beat Abdelkebir Ouaddar on Cordano Sitte (Carthago Z) and Martin Fuchs on Uzo vh Hobos Z (Up to Date Miltoo).
