30 / 07 / 2018
On Sunday, the apotheosis for older horses was planned at the Z-Festival. We started outdoor with a class for 4-year-old horses judged on style. The quality was so high that the points of the 41 participants were close together. In the end it was Zidane Ter Wilgen Z who went home with the victory. This Zirocco Blue VDL son was ridden by Emma Rooms and comes from the breeding of her father Wilfried Rooms. For Emma Rooms it is not her first success at the Z-Festival. Last year, the young rider finished second in the selection for five year old horses with Tigra Ter Wilgen Z, a Taloubet Z-daughter, who continued her top results with winning bronze at the World Championship. Zidane Ter Wilgen Z is also closely related to this Tigra Ter Wilgen Z: Zidane's mother Bellisima Ter Wilgen Z (Bamako de Muze), active at 1m45 level under the saddle of Jonna Ekberg, is after all the half-sister of Tigra. Zidane received an 8.8 for technique, scope and ride-ability, resulting in a total score of 26.4.
The second place went to Diamant van 't Coseveld Z and Kirsten Vancraybex. This Diamant de Semilly x Corrado I stallion was bred by Dorien Boden and Dries Schreurs and showed an impressive technique! That resulted in the only 9 that was distributed by the jury. For scope and ride-ability, the stallion was awarded with an 8.5, resulting in 26 points.
The third place was reserved for the Zangersheide stallion Apollo Z. This Aktion Pur Z-son showed an excellent ride-ability under the saddle of Adam Morgan, which was rewarded with a 8.9. Furthermore, this son of Carlaya Z (Caretano Z), who jumped at 1m50 level with Judy-Ann Melchior herself, gained an 8.5 on technique and scope, resulting in a total score of 25.9.
Three horses achieved a total score of 25.8 points and ended up on an ex aequo fourth place. These were Ego DK Z (Erco van 't Roosakker - b: Stal de Krochten) ridden by Thieu Huijbregts, Dida Di Darco Z (Diamant de Semilly - b: Jan van den Nyden) presented by Jan Vermeiren and Dilajo Z (Dicasi OH - b: OH BVBA) under the saddle of Kim Keymis.

Five-year-old horses

The five- and six-year-old horses had to show their qualities on Saturday and Sunday in order to claim a wildcard for the World Championship or the Belgian Championship. In a Barema A against the clock it was Tim Franssen who finished as fastest with Ghana FS Z (Glasgow W v Merelsnest), a breeding product of Maurice van de Walle, in 62.20 sec on Saturday. Ruben Houben finished second with Monolo Z (Mylord Carthago), a breeding product of Monique Hendrickx, in 63.65 sec. Jens Nijs and Crack de Nyze Z, a son of Comilfo Plus Z bred by Danny Nijs, signed for third place in 64.16 sec. On Sunday, only 3 five-year-old horses managed to jump a double clear. This time, it was Bert Panneels who claimed the victory with Gem Carnute Z (Gemini CL XX), a breeding product of Christian Ceulemants in 42.40 sec. Tim Franssen and Ghana FS Z jumped to a second place in 45.03 sec, after a victory on the day before. The last double clear combination was Geoffrey Geerts with Pandora Boy Z. This son of Presley Boy is bred and owned by Luc Heye.
In the final ranking it was of course Ghana FS Z (Glasgow W vh Merelsnest) who claimed the victory. This means that the mare owned by Lode van de Weghe and Franssen VOF is one of the first three laureates that we will see at the World Championship. For Sceska ET de la Falize Z and Alain Gilson there was a fifth place on the first day followed by a seventh place on Sunday. This resulted in a second place overall for the Scendix daughter bred by Remy and Alain Gilson. Valdes Z and Steven Van Meersche gained bronze with a 10th and 8th place. Valdes Z is bred and owned by V. Van Kerckhove and a son of Vigo d’Arsouilles.
Six-year-old horses
Almost 50 six-year-old horses competed on Saturday. It was a tough competition: no less than 15 combinations stayed clear in this competition against the clock. Nico Baerts was the first to finish in 64.16 sec with Especially Ultra Z (Emerald van 't Ruytershof - f: Dominique Hardy). Jan Vermeiren followed in 65.80 sec with Arthokilly Z, a son of Andiamo Z bred TH Allers. Neal Vanderwegen and Eduard JH Z, also a descendant of Emerald van 't Ruytershof, but this time from the breeding of Dirk Slootmaeckers, gained the third place in 67.90 sec. On Sunday, there were only four combinations that remained double clear. Here it was again Nico Baerts and Especially Ultra Z who were the best in 41.59 sec. Stijn Baert was able to seize the second and third place. With Feromas van Beek Z (Fantomas de Muze) he finished in 42.15 sec while he crossed the finish line in 42.67 sec with Elcup van Beek II Z (Elvis Ter Putte). Both stallions are bred by ‘t Eirbissemhof. Ruben Mulders was the last double clear in 46.74 sec with Miss's Blue S Z. She is a daughter of Mr Blue out of Johan Simons' breeding.

In the ranking it was Nico Baerts who, with Especially Ultra Z, qualified for the World Championship for the second year in a row. Then the Emerald daughter had to be satisfied with bronze, this year she revived with gold. Jan Vermeiren and Arthokilly Z were the second winners with a second and eighth place. Stieven van Bunder was able to get the last wildcard with Quantanamo Z. He gained an eighth and fifth place with this Quinn van de Heffinck son from his own breeding.

Three-year-old horses

While all outdoor winners are known, indoor the championship for 3-year-old Z horses took place. 52 horses showed their qualities in freedom, judged by G. Botton and M. Everse. With Apollo van Jonckhoeve Z the victory went to a son of Atomic Z. This breeding product of Stal Jonckhoeve was presented by Stal de Bruijn-Scheepens & M.A. Blom and comes out of the strain of the 1m60 jumping horses Barbaro (Balou du Rouet), Al Yamamah (Baloubet du Rouet), Lacefull Z (Lauriston), Carthelot (Carthago Z) and Quifilio (Quick Star).
Silver wen to Chili Pepper H M Z, bred and owned by Stal Mievis Huysegoms. The mother of this classy stallion by Cornet Obolensky is a half-sister of Acapulco Z (Acorado I), active at 1m60 level with Deborah Jackson.
Blessings from Second Life Z honored his name with a third place. This daughter of Balou du Rouet was bred by Thierry Hendrikx and is now owned by A. Jansen. With Jifrane de Chalusse as mother she also comes from an impressive dam line! Nifrane De Kreisker (Equest Carnute), active at 1m60 level with Laura Klaphake, Senator Quilano de Kreiser (Kannan), active at 1m50 level with Julie Andrews, and Newton de Kreisker (Diamant de Semilly), active at 1m45 level with Eddy Seguin Maure, are half brothers and half sisters to Blessings from Second Life Z.
This Blessings from Second Life Z wasn’t the only success product from the breeding of Thierry Hendrikx. Epic from Second Life Z, a daughter of Emerald van 't Ruytershof, was also loved by the judges. This mare out of the dam line of Roofs (Caletto - 1m60 with Jan Tops) and Australia (Air Jordan Z - 1m60 with Timothy Anciaume) finished on a sixth place. Cavalini Z took fourth place. This daughter of Cavalo Z comes from the breeding of Rudy Adams and is now owned by Jan de Bie. Caluna de Berlo Z, a daughter of Chellsini Z gained the fifth place. She was bred by Ines Berlo and comes from the dam line of Domburg van de Rechri (Heartbreaker - 1m60 with Simon Widmann), Nidji de Dibru Z (Nelson Z - 1m55 with Léa Gritti) and Rahmannshof Bently (Bentley vd Heffinck - 1m50 with Shady Samir ).
This means that all laureates of the Z-festival are now known and we wish to thank everyone for the overwhelming success during these warm days!
