Aragon Z wins Verona World Cup

11 / 11 / 2013
Christian Ahlmann won the World Cup of Verona. This he did on Aragon Z (Askari), the horse that earlier this year won the first GP of the Z-Tour in Lanaken under Judy Ann Melchior. The grey gelding, since December last year owned by Studfarm Zangersheide, was ridden in turn by Christian Ahlmann and Judy Ann Melchior this year. Previous owner Willy Van der Ham, former stable rider for Zangersheide, had the horse ridden by Ahlmann before. Twelve combination qualified for the jump-off in Verona. Scott Brash completed his successful Verona show with a second place in the World Cup on the mare Ursula (Ahorn). The first two horses placed for the jump-off were both offspring of Cumano. Eventually the alternative Italian rider Luca Maria Moneta finished in third place on his Cumano daughter Neptune Brecourt. Same combination had also finished second in last year’s Verona World Cup. An eighth place with time faults in the jump-off was for Athina Onassis de Miranda on Camille Z (Cumano). Just before the start of the World Cup class, Christian Ahlmann had finished fourth on Asca Z, a half-brother of Aragon Z via sire Askari, in a 1.50m class. And on Saturday there was victory in a 1.45m series class for Aristo Z (Andiamo Z) under Ben Maher.
