Cicero van Paemel Z to Studfarm Zangersheide

27 / 12 / 2013
‘Going back to his roots, yeah!’

In the past few weeks Studfarm Zangersheide has presented a new stallion every week to the public to be added to its stallion station next year. Some of the new arrivals were, for example Aga Khan Z (Acorado I), Solid Gold Z (Stakkato Gold) and Atomic Z (Cumano). Each and everyone of them exceptionally talented stallions and selection champions. The latest addition to this elite group is Cicero Van Paemel Z (Carthago Z x Randel Z).

After an unfortunate injury sustained in La Baule owner Luc Van Eeckhoudt and rider Dirk Demeersman had to make the hard decision a few weeks ago to permanently retire Cicero Z from the sport. From the 2014 season onwards, the tall grey will get a stable at Studfarm Zangersheide, where his sire Carthago Z did his sensationally good work. Cicero van Paemel Z shone in numerous international GPs under Dirk Demeersman, winning, amongst other achievements, the GP in Aalst and the prestigious Sires of the World in Mechelen. But the best years were still to come for this combination with, after La Baule, several Nations Cups on the agenda. That is when fate struck and the stallion has to pick up his career as a stud sooner than was planned and therefore again be able to provide the breeders with fresh sperm.

‘Going back to his roots’; it is not entirely illogical that Cicero van Paemel Z will continue his career at Studfarm Zangersheide of all places, in the same stables that accommodated his sire Carthago Z seventeen years ago. Under Jos Lansink Carthago Z performed very well in the Sydney and Atlanta Olympics and at the EC in Hickstead and the most prestigious GPs world-wide. Grandsire Randel Z was born, as was his contemporary Ratina Z, at Studfarm Zangersheide out of the successful combination Ramiro Z – Alme Z.
