Extremely good quality at Stallion Selection Studbook Zangersheide

14 / 03 / 2017
Upon publication of the stallion catalogue earlier last week, it was already clear that the quality of the stallions offered for the selection in Lanaken was higher than ever. Breeding is getting more and more professional and in latter years has improved exponentially, which automatically results in a general increase of the quality. Also stallion rearers and handlers are getting more professional all the time. Studbook Zangersheide is therefore exceptionally pleased that the best stables resolutely opted for the open policy of the studbook in which the best showjumping horses are getting all the chances they need.

Like in former years, the jury of the stallion selection was composed of a trio of real horse professionals from 3 different countries. Heinz Meyer from Germany, Luc Tilleman from Belgium and Eric Levallois from France. A purposeful choice of the studbook; a jury consisting of 3 nationalities giving 3 opinions and 3 assessments, which gives the best horses, no matter where they come from, the best chances. If there is ever any doubt about a horse, the first concern is the horse itself, which gets absolute priority!

In this edition 31 stallions, presented in free action, were licensed for breeding. “We prefer this system because we want to give young, quality horses all the chances they need. The best free jumping horses get the opportunity to develop at leisure until they are 5-yr-olds. That is when they are again presented to the jury in September, this time under saddle over a course. The better showjumping horse thus gets the best chance to develop!” according to the stallion selection jury.

The studbook is growing and also its events. In this spring selection as many as 80 newly to be licensed stallions from all over Europe were presented to the jury and the public; some even came from the Ukraine.

The complete list of licensed stallions can be found on this link.
