Montreal via Zangersheide to his pension in the field

09 / 05 / 2014

At the online auction of the Eurocommerce horses, the highest bid for the 21-yr-old gelding Montreal (Athlet Z – Cor de la Bruyere) was made by Zangersheide. Montreal made a career under Wim and Gerco Schröder. In 2004 the son of Athlet Z jumped into fourth place at the Athens Olympics. Same year Montreal also qualified for the World Cup Finals, after wining, amongst other achievements, the Oslo WC. Also the four star GPs of Bremen, La Coruna and Maastricht are on the sport record of Montreal, as well as the GP of CSIO Dublin. In short, Montreal was one of the most successful horses of his generation.

Zangersheide bid for and bought Montreal with the intention to clone him. The gelding unites unique and valuable showjumping blood. Athlet Z (Almé Z x Gotthard) was one of the most promising sires ever bred by Zangersheide with unlimited power and a superior technique. Because of an injury, in which he broke his back, we have not been able to immortalize his talents in our studfarm. We are extremely happy to be able to use Athlet Z in our breeding as yet. By cloning Montreal Zangersheide wants to make him available to the breeders in a few years time.
Montreal perfectly fits the breeding policy of Zangersheide which always collects and offers the most valuable showjumping blood. Even via the cloning technique, as happened before with Ratina Z, Air Jordan Z, Levisto Z, Chellano Z and the legendary gelding Gem Twist xx.

Montreal is and remains the property of Zangersheide but after making his cells available for cloning, he returned to the Netherlands, where he is enjoying a well deserved retirement among several contemporaries.
