Don VHP Z leader of the winning team

02 / 10 / 2017
With two clear rounds Don VHP Z (by Diamant de Semilly, breeder Guy de Schuymer) made an important contribution to the team gold won by the Dutch in the Nations Cup finals. Smolders, who started for the Netherlands as last rider, did not make a single mistake and so lifted Orange to the highest step on the podium.

For the ruling European reserve champion this has been an outdoor season in which one highlight followed another. Besides the Nations Cup’s finals team gold and individual European silver, Don VHP Z also finished second in the Globals of Rome and Hamburg and came third in the Global Champions Tour edition of Paris.

"I never get bored by winning", says Smolders immediately after. "A great clincher of the outdoor season. Don VHP Z has performed incredibly well this season. Every time it mattered he was there. I can not find the words to express my admiration for him", Smolders admits.

On the podium Don VHP Z was accompanied by Cas de Liberte Kelfshof Z (by Cracky Z, breeder Studfarm 't Kelshof) who under Niels Bruynseels finished in third place for the Belgian team.

One day later team member Pieter Devos caused sensation with Claire Z (by Clearway, breeder PGMBH Hamemes). This only 9-yr-old mare made her 1.60m debut this outdoor season, which she closed by winning her first Grand Prix at five star level. In the main class in Barcelona only two combinations of the 40 starters jumped a double clear round.
