Jerome Guery & Papillon Z

Zangersheide first and second in GP of Knokke Hippique!

29 / 06 / 2015
A new top-class event has left the showjumping world speechless. Knokke Hippique, a five star show with the greatest stars of the world in the ring, was concluded yesterday with the Grand Prix Porsche over 1.60m. Jerome Guery took all the risks in the world to grab the keys for the racing car, a Porsche Targa. And everything worked out. He won one quarter second ahead of Harrie Smolders. Remarkably, both riders saddled a stallion registered with Zangersheide. Jerome Guery rode Papillon Z, bred by Helga Guisson and Alexander Liefsoens. Harrie Smolders used Don VHP Z (Diamant de Semilly), a half-brother of Carlos VHP Z, bred by the late Guy De Schuymer. Also Casallo Z (Casall, bred by Maurice Hermans) jumped another double clear, which was good for a seventh place under the Italian rider Piergiorgio Bucci. Casallo, like Don VHP Z and Papillon Z, were born within a few miles radius from each other in Belgian Limburg.

In the Top Series GP over 1.45m also three Z-horses reached the top eight, but in this case no podium places. Rik Hemeryck won the Porsche, for this class a Macan. The Brazilian Felipe Amaral finished fifth on the impressive full brother of Coltaire Z, called Premiere Carthoes B Z (Carthago Z). This stallion was bred by the Bruers family. Eleonore Lambilliotte and Alaska VG Z (Andiamo Z) bred by the Van Gorp family, finished sixth and Elina Petersson (Canasta Z), who had already won in Knokke on Thursday, now finished eighth. Her grey mare was born at Studfarm Zangersheide.

Like in the CSI5* GP, also in the Super Cup Grand Prix on the Sunday morning two Z-horses reached the top three. Victory went to Ruben Romp on Audi’s Contento. Isabelle Strom also rode a double clear on the Air Jordan Z son Air Johnsen Z but finished a few seconds later. Air Johnsen Z was bred by Marcel Willems from Koningsbosch (NL). Although Virginie Thonon and her barely 8-yr-old Tristan Horta Z (Taran de la Pomme, breeder Wim van Rossem from Ternat, Belgium) had one fault in the jump-off, her fine basic round still helped her to a place on the platform.

Judy-Ann Melchior also jumped in Knokke. She finished eighth on As Cold As Ice Z after a relaxed double clear on the Saturday night in the small GPs.
