Don VHP Z third in LGCT GP Mexico

15 / 04 / 2019
After the new Longines Global Champions Tour season was opened in Doha, the GCT riders and lady riders travelled to Mexico City for their next competition. The highlight of these shows is undoubtedly the Grand Prix, for which the 31 best combinations out of the 2nd round of the Global Champions League were qualified. 12 duos were advanced to the jump-off, including the Dutch former number 1 of the world Harrie Smolders and his 15-year-old stallion Don VHP Z (Diamant de Semilly x Voltaire). Harry Smolders and Don have been a great team at the highest level for years and so it was no surprise they gained another podium place in Mexico. They tapped the timers in 40.74 seconds, good for a 3rd place after Jérôme Guery (Quel Homme de Hus) and Abdel Saïd (Venise du Reverdy).

Pieter Devos and Claire Z (Clearway x Coronado) clearly enjoyed the Mexican sun-rays. They won Friday’s 1.55m main class, in which 8 of the 11 combinations qualified for the jump-off put down a second clear. Claire Z galloped through the finish line with a 1.5 second lead and thus secured the first place for Beezie Madden (Coach) and Peder Fredricson (Zacramento). Henrik von Eckermann and the nine-year-old Que Bueno de Hus Z (Que Guapo x Canto) became fifth.

The Taloubet Z stallion Take A Chance On Me Z, who won the Sires of the World with Christian Ahlmann, was both clear and placed in the 1.50m leveled class with two phases. Their double clear got rewarded with a ninth place (see video).

Home rider Alfredo Ramirez Piedra also remained completely clear in the two-star GP and finished with Red Gold in ninth place as well.
