New top performance for Dexter Fontenis Z

After the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses, last weekend was another important weekend for the international sport with the final of the Nations Cup in Barcelona. On Friday evening the City Of Barcelona Trophy was on the program and a leading role was reserved for the French rider Simon Delestre with his 10-year-old gelding Dexter Fontenis Z, the son of Diarado and Voltaire who was bred by S.C.R.I S.Ky Horses .

Delestre and Dexter Fontenis Z won the first round of the Global Champions League in Valkenswaard in August and once again proved their excellent form in Barcelona. After a clear first round, they were among the 9 combinations that managed to qualify for the second and decisive round. As the very last combination at the start, they once again provided a flawless performance and with a finishing time of 41.93 seconds they secured a nice 2nd place in the rankings.

Another combination that jumped into the picture in Barcelona was the Swiss lady rider Janika Sprunger with the 8-year-old mare Kinmar Scarlett, a daughter of Akarad Hero and Lys de Darmen who was born at the home of breeders Luc Henry and Gerry Marron as A Kinmar Scarlett Z and with whom Sprunger finished 2nd in August during the CSI2* GP of Kronenberg. Sprunger and Kinmar Scarlett started their show with a 4th place during the 1.45m class on Friday and a day later they managed to secure a 7th place during another 1.45m class.

Who also placed twice was the Italian rider Alberto Zorzi and the 11-year-old gelding Cortez van 't Klein Asdonk Z, a son of Cornet Obolensky and Andiamo Z who was bred by Eddy Thomas. During the 1.45m class on Thursday, they finished 7th in the rankings and during the 1.50m class on Saturday they jumped to a 6th place. During this 1.50m class there was also a 4th place for the Dutch rider Willem Greve with his 8-year-old mare Candy Luck Z (Comme Il Faut x Canturo – B: Dirk Geerinckx).

Nations Cup

But also in the Nations Cup teams, several Zangersheide horses made their appearance. The the Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten and his 13-year-old gelding Beauville Z N.O.P. (Bustique x Jumpy des Fontaines – B: Pascal Habets) jumps clear during the Challenge Cup on Saturday and so played an important role in the Dutch victory.

Lady rider Lily Atwood and her also 13-year-old gelding Cor-Leon Vd Vlierbeek Z (Calvaro Z x Omar – BF: Chris Anné and Eva De Meyer) were part of the British team. They appeared at the start during the grand final on Sunday afternoon and were the absolute strongest for the British team by being the only combination that ensured a clear round.

Last but not least, there was also a clear round for the Spanish rider Mariano Martinez Bastida with the 10-year-old gelding Belano Vd Wijnhoeve Z (Berlin x Darco – F: D. De Cuyper).
