A month after their team gold medal and their individual silver medal at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, the American rider Kent Farrington and his 10-year-old chestnut gelding Landon jumped into the picture once again last weekend! The successful duo appeared at the start in the Desert International Horse Park of Thermal and managed to secure another podium place during the CSI5* GP.

Landon, a son of our chestnut stallion Comilfo Plus Z and Quadrillo who was born at the home of breeder Danny Nijs as Crack de Nyze Z, was without a doubt 'Zangersheide Horse of the Month' last month and his excellent form has only been confirmed in recent days. After Farrington and Landon finished already 3rd during a 1.50m class on Thursday, they were one of the 7 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off during the CSI5* GP on Saturday. They also seemed to be on their way to another GP victory, as they managed to set the fastest time in 81.90 seconds. Unfortunately, in the rush, a pole fell out of the spoons, so they had to settle for 3rd place.

Kent Farrington: “He’s stepping up to that level. He’s still very inexperienced. The major focus was to qualify the U.S. for the Pan Am Games, which we did in Chile. This is his next show from there so this is how I wanted to wrap up the season for him. Karl’s horse is very fast, and my horse is not the fastest against the clock, so I had to take all the risks. I’m still happy with third.”

On Saturday it was the Israeli rider Daniel Bluman who managed to ensure blue/yellow success with his 15-year-old gelding Ladriano Z, the son of Lawito and Baloubet du Rouet who was bred by Paul Schockemöhle and with whom Bluman won the CSI5* GP of Bridgehampton NY in September. During the 1.50m class against the clock, Bluman and Ladriano Z provided a flawless performance and this was also good for a 3rd place in the rankings.

Yesterday during the final day there was another 1.50m class on the program for the CSI5* competition and the British lady rider Amanda Derbyshire managed to reach the top 5 with the 11-year-old stallion Otto BH, a son of Norton d'Eole and Toulon who was born at the home of breeders  Patteet and Van Ransbeeck as No Mercy Van 'T Kamerveld Z. Derbyshire and Otto BH kept it clear in both the first and the second and decisive rounds, which earned them a 4th place in the rankings.

Next to the 3rd place of Farrington and Landon, we also saw a second Zangersheide horse in the top 5 of the rankings during the 1.50m class on Thursday. The 5th place went to Farrington's compatriot Mimi Gochman with the 10-year-old grey gelding Cosmos BH, a son of Chellano Alpha Z and Artos Z who was bred by Stoeterij Zangersheide. Cochman and Cosmos BH remained clear in the basic round, but incurred 4 penalties in the jump-off. During the 1.40m class on Wednesday there was also a 5th place for the Canadian rider Sean Jobin with the 11-year-old grey gelding Coquelicot vh Heuvelland Z (Catoki x Cassini II – B: Frans Nollet).

CSI2* competition

Next to the CSI5* competition, a CSI2* competition also took place in Thermal in recent days and several Zangersheide horses also managed to distinguish themselves in the GP. For example, a podium place was reserved for the Canadian lady rider Kara Chad with the 9-year-old chestnut gelding Easy Boy d'Aubey Z, a son of Emerald van 't Ruytershof and Rubels who was bred in France by Alexandre Zambaux. Chad and Easy Boy d'Aubey Z were one of the 13 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off and a clear round in 36.00 seconds earned them a 3rd place in the rankings.

With this performance, Chad and Easy Boy d'Aubey Z did slightly better than their compatriot Ali Ramsay and the 12-year-old mare Bonita vh Keizershof Z (Bustique x For Pleasure - B: Leon Otten). They also managed to keep it clear in the jump-off, but crossed the finish line in 36.75 seconds, which was good for 4th place.
