For the second year in a row, the Belgian Championship for 5-year-old horses in Gesves has resulted in a gold medal for a Zangersheide horse! A total of 54 combinations had qualified for the final during the two qualifiers earlier in the week and they competed for the medals on Sunday afternoon. Of those 54 combinations, 13 managed to stay clear in the basic round of coursedesigner Eugene Mathy and so qualified for the ultimate jump-off.

It was the young rider Seppe Wouters who won gold with the brown mare Libelle Asborne Z, a daughter of Lector vd Bisschop and Calvaro Z who was bred by Asborne BVBA. Wouters and Libelle Asborne Z again managed to keep all the poles in the cups in the jump-off and with a finish time of 34.25 seconds they were crowned the new Belgian Champions!

The 5th place in this Belgian Championship for 5-year-old horses was reserved for Wout Neven with the gelding Aganix de Corlato Z, a son of our chestnut stallion Aganix du Seigneur Z and Corofino I who was bred by VOF Raskin-Heynen/Pieraets-Pacque and a half-brother of the gelding Toulouse PP Z (Toulon) who jumps at 1.50m level under the saddle of the Belgian rider Frédéric Vernaet. Neven and Aganix de Corlato Z also impressed with a clear performance, but they crossed the finish line in 38.99 seconds in that jump-off.

Thomas Mertens placed 7th with the stallion Olaf de Bo Vd Bisscop Z, a son of Opium JW van de Moerhoeve TN and VDL Groep No Limit who was bred by Philippe Bormans. They finished in 42.99 seconds during the jump-off.
