With a view to admission to the Zangersheide breeding service 2026, the official stallion approval of Studbook Zangersheide VZW will take place at Sentower Park, Oudsbergen (B) from 26 to 28 February 2026.
Entry Conditions
The approval is open for three- and four-year-old stallions (born in 2022 and 2023) registered in a recognized sport horse studbook (member of the WBFSH). The stallion must have a pedigree of at least four generations.
Entry Procedure
Registration must be completed though our website www.zangersheide.com by filling in the online entry form. At the time of registration, and no later than 19 January 2026, the following must be sent by email to [email protected]:
- A copy of the pedigree document of the stallion if he is registered with a studbook other than Studbook Zangersheide (including the UELN number, microchip number, and the page on which the breeder is listed).
- Radiographic examination of good technical quality (minimum 24 images), dated after 1 September 2025.
- A veterinary report completed and signed by your veterinarian (download here).
- At least 4 photos and a short video to assess the stallion’s conformation and limbs. An instructional example video can be viewed here. This video may also be sent via WhatsApp to +32 472 12 52 23, mentioning the stallion’s name.
Preselection
Based on the information above, a preselection will take place. If the result of the preselection is positive, the stallion will be invited to the actual approval. A positive preselection result is not automatically a guarantee for the approval of the exterior.
Vaccination
Stallions invited to the approval must be correctly vaccinated against influenza/tetanus. A vaccination certificate must be shown upon request.
Approval Requirements
For initial approval, the following requirements apply:
- The stallion must be stabled at the location of the stallion approval.
- A conformation evaluation in-hand and a free jumping evaluation (entry over a small cross-rail with a trot pole in front, followed by a vertical on one stride, which will then be converted into an ascending oxer).
If a veterinarian appointed by Studbook Zangersheide deems it necessary to carry out a repeat radiographic or clinical examination, cooperation is mandatory before the stallion may enter the breeding service. The decision of the appointed veterinarian is final.
The DNA profile of all approved stallions will be recorded. The height at withers of all presented stallions will be measured.
Auction
By entering the stallion for the approval, the owner agrees to give the selection committee of Stoeterij Zangersheide NV first choice to offer the stallion at its stallion auction on Saturday 28 February 2026.
- If the selection committee selects the stallion for the auction and the owner agrees, this will take place under the general terms and conditions of the auction.
- If the selection committee does not select the stallion for the auction, the owner is free to sell him.
- If the selection committee wishes to offer the stallion at the auction under its general terms and conditions , and the owner does not agree, the owner commits not to sell the stallion to third parties within the 3 months following the stallion approval. Should the stallion still be sold within these 3 months, the owner agrees to pay a commission of €5,000 to Stoeterij Zangersheide NV.
