Gold and silver in the CSI2* Grand Prix at Ermelo

Whilst Belgium hosted a three-star show at the Azelhof in Lier, there was also international show jumping action on Dutch soil last weekend. A two-star show was on the programme in Ermelo, and there too, several Z-class horses once again gave their very best. The highlight came during the CSI2* Grand Prix, in which the Z-class horses managed to secure both the gold and the silver.
Unlike most other shows, the final day at the National Equestrian Centre in Ermelo took place on Saturday, with all eyes on the Hööks Grand Prix. A total of forty-three pairs took their chance in this 1.45m-high finale to the weekend, and eight of them secured a place in the deciding jump-off. It was the Z-class horses that performed most impressively, with British rider Georgia Tame and the 8-year-old gelding Lucky Chance Z taking centre stage – a son of Casall and Indoctro who was born to the Ruant family of Picobello Horses as Chance For Picobello Z. Tame and Lucky Chance Z, who had already jumped to a brilliantsecond place on Thursday during the qualifier for this Grand Prix, once again kept all the bars neatly in place and, with a finishing time of 43.10 seconds, they were just under a full second ahead of the runner-up in the standings.
Second place in this CSI2* Grand Prix was, however, also taken by a Z-class horse, thanks to the Dutch rider Wesley Mulder and the 9-year-old mare C-Livia RV Z, a daughter of Cohinoor VDL and Cassini I, bred by Harold Renken. Mulder and C-Livia RV Z raced to the finish line in the jump-off in 44.06 seconds, thereby securing a top placing for themselves as well.
During Thursday’s 1.45m Grand Prix Qualifier, Georgia Tame and Lucky Chance Z tooksecond place, whilstthird place in this day’s main event was also coloured blue and yellow. That honour went to local rider Megan Laseur and the 8-year-old gelding I Am Perfect Z, a son of I Am Moerhoeve’s Star (Zazu) and Indoctro, who was bred in the Netherlands by Ton Van Tilburg. Both in the first round and in the jump-off, Laseur and I Am Perfect Z produced clear rounds.
A double clear round was also achieved by Laseur’s compatriot Gerwilmer Ton and the 12-year-old mare Dwivoli van de Groote Kamps Z, a daughter of Denzel van ’t Meulenhof and Roven XX from the stud of E.W.J. Bakker. However, they took just a little longer to complete their jump-off successfully, meaning they ultimately finished just off the podium in4th place.
Finally, Dutch rider Pim Mulder also made his mark by securing prize-winning placings with two Z-class horses. Riding the 8-year-old stallion Coldplay Z (Comilfo Plus Z x Candillo Z – breeder: Freek Hoogenboom), he finished5th in the 1.40m class on Wednesday, whilst with the 9-year-old stallion Diamond Z (Diamant de Semilly x Breitling LS – breeder: Freek Hoogenboom) he took7th place in both the 1.40m class on Wednesday and the one on Thursday.
