Much of our attention was naturally focused on our annual Z-Festival in Lanaken last weekend, but there was also plenty of international show jumping on the programme. In Germany, for instance, all eyes were on the Longines Global Champions Tour at Riesenbeck International, where our stallion Toèmme de Regor Z emerged as one of the standout performers of the weekend with two top placings.
Alongside the renowned five-star competition, Ludger Beerbaum and his team hosted several other events, including the LVM Youngster Tour. In this event, Christian Ahlmann delivered two strong performances with our 7-year-old grey stallion Toèmme de Regor Z, the son of Chacco Blue and Cento, bred by the Veldeman family at Stal De Regor. Ahlmann and Toèmme de Regor Z began their competition on Friday with a fine clear round, but really made their mark for the first time during the second class on Saturday morning. In a timed class, they raced to the finish in 70.51 seconds, securing a fine second place overall.
However, Ahlmann and Toèmme de Regor Z saved their best for Sunday afternoon, when they emerged as the winners of the final class. They remained clear in the basic round and were thus among the fourteen pairs to qualify for the decisive jump-off. In the jump-off, they managed to repeat that flawless performance and, with a dazzling round in 32.73 seconds, they finished a good one and a half seconds ahead of their closest rivals.
The final day on Sunday, however, began with a 1.50m class for the riders in the five-star competition, and it was a Z-class horse that topped the rankings. It was Germany’s Daniel Deusser who put in the strongest performance with the 10-year-old chestnut gelding Devino van ’t Langeveld Z, a son of Dayton Sitte and For Pleasure, bred by Bert Thienpond. In a jump-off for which fourteen pairs also qualified, they crossed the finish line in 38.38 seconds, outclassing the competition by almost three-quarters of a second.
Also on Sunday, the riders in the three-star competition took to the arena for a 1.45m speed class, where there was further success for the Dutch team. This was down to the Swiss rider Janika Sprunger and the 8-year-old mare Victory Music Z, a daughter of Vigo d’Arsouilles and Emerald van ’t Ruytershof, bred by Walter Lelie. After a clear round, they clocked a time of 63.11 seconds, securing a finethird place.
On Friday, Colombian rider Ruben Arroyave also secured a bronze medal with the 14-year-old mare Valeska Z, a daughter of Van Gogh and Balou du Rouet, bred in Germany by Nadine Resche. They secured thisthird place in the 1.45m class, delivering a flawless performance in both the first round and the jump-off.
Another standout combination in the three-star competition were the American rider Natalie Dean and the equally 14-year-old grey gelding Crescendo MB Z (Clinton I x Jodokus – breeder: M. Bokman). They first made their mark on Friday with a9th place in the 1.40m class and jumped their way back into the spotlight on Sunday with a7th place in the 1.45m class.
Finally, Chinese rider Chenghao Yu also had a strong competition with the 10-year-old gelding Anthony Bl Z, a son of Akarad Hero Z and Cumano, bred by Mariëlle Bonvanie and Jos Lansink. In fact, they secured6th place in the rankings in both the 1.40m class on Saturday and the CSI2* Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
