The Pôle International du Cheval Longines in Deauville was once again the setting for the French edition of the Zangersheide stallion selection last weekend. For the thirteenth time, young stallions were given the chance to show there before the stallion selection committee, consisting of Eric Levallois, Tim Rieskamp-Goedeking and Stijn Van Campenhout. They were judged with a critical eye on both their conformation and jumping qualities.
On Saturday, all candidate stallions first appeared in hand, after which the 3-year-olds and some of the 4-year-olds could show their talent during free jumping. On Sunday, a second round of free jumping followed for a selection of these young stallions, while the older stallions had to prove their qualities under saddle on a standard course. In the end, 6 of the stallions presented managed to convince the jury, good for an approval for the Zangersheide studbook.
Stijn Van Campenhout: "I think we were certainly strict enough in our assessments. In doing so, we tried to follow the same line as a few weeks ago in Opglabbeek. Overall, the quality of the stallions was at a high level, especially in the stallions presented at liberty. There we saw a lot of horses with a good foundation and a strong model. Moreover, it was also noticeable that many stallions jumped even better on the second day than during their first presentation."
Below is an overview of the stallions that were also approved:
