Studfarm Zangersheide mourns the tragic loss of D’Aganix 2000 Z
Zangersheide
It is with heavy hearts that Studfarm Zangersheide announces the passing of the stallion D’Aganix 2000 Z. The 12-year-old stallion was put to sleep following a tragic accident upon arrival in Leipzig, despite the best efforts of veterinarians on the scene. This devastating incident has left the entire Zangersheide family in mourning.
D’Aganix 2000 Z was an exceptional stallion who united two of Studfarm Zangersheide’s most iconic stallions. Born in 2014 at the studfarm of Tony Foriers (Stud 2000), he was the first approved son of the black pearl Dominator 2000 Z, out of a daughter of Aganix du Seigneur Z. From an early age, D’Aganix 2000 Z demonstrated that he had inherited world-class jumping talent.
“This is an immeasurable loss for us all,” says Judy Ann Melchior. “D’Aganix 2000 Z was a truly special stallion; he was kind, courageous, and overflowing with talent. He was raised at Zangersheide from a very young age, and I watched him grow into a magnificent stallion who fulfilled every promise we saw in him. He became part of our family and grew into one of the strongest talents in Christian’s stable. Due to his sporting career, he was unavailable for breeding for several seasons, yet his first offspring are already impressing us tremendously with their scope, quality, and mentality. Through his progeny, his legacy will live on and remain part of Zangersheide for generations to come.”
Under the guidance of Christian Ahlmann, D’Aganix 2000 Z was produced with care and patience towards the highest level of the sport, successfully competing at CSI5* 1.60m level. Among numerous career highlights, the pair claimed victory in the Open Sires of the World during the CSI4* Zangersheide International in 2025, they finished second in the CSI5* GCT/GCL Grand Prix of Rabat, third in the CSI4*-W World Cup Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi and placed top ten in the CSI4* Grand Prix of Münster, as well as in the CSI5* GCT Grand Prix of Riesenbeck.
From a breeding perspective, D’Aganix 2000 Z held exceptional value as the first approved son of Dominator 2000 Z. His own athletic qualities were remarkable: he jumped with immense scope, marvellous technique, superb balance, and tremendous power and capacity. Breeders held high expectations for D’Aganix’s genetic legacy, and he was already passing on his best qualities to his progeny, confirming the confidence placed in him as a sire.
In the midst of this difficult time, Studfarm Zangersheide extends its sincere gratitude to the entire team of Christian Ahlmann for their dedication and care of D’Aganix 2000 Z, as well as to breeders around the world who followed his career and included him in their breeding programs.
