Last night at Jumping Mechelen, one of the absolute highlights of the week was reached with the CSI5* Grand Prix Sport Vlaanderen. Also this time the stands were completely full and it became once again a glorious evening for the blue/yellow colors of Zangersheide. After a breathtaking and very exciting jump-off, it was the Swedish lady rider Petronella Andersson who managed to claim victory with her 13-year-old mare Cassina Z, a daughter of Casado van 't Gelutt Z and Lux Z, who was bred by Paul Buckinx. Andersson and Cassina Z were one of the 19 combinations that remained clear in the basic round and so managed to qualify for the jump-off. As the 10th combination at the start, the duo rushed to the finish in 37.12 seconds, giving them a lead of more than half a second over the competition.

Petronella Andersson: “She is one of the horses I have had in my stable for the longest time. I knew she was very fast , but she can become too fast if I push her too much. It almost went wrong on the last double, but she jumped in for me. Cassina is a Belgian horse, so I’m sure there were several people in the audience rooting for her. The atmosphere was fantastic.”

Next to Andersson's victory with Cassina Z, we also saw a second Zangersheide horse in the top 5 of the rankings. 4th place went to the Swiss rider Pius Schwizer with the 9-year-old mare Cyra Z, a daughter of Casimo and Balougran who was bred by J. van Kooten B. Vink. Schwizer and Cyra Z also ensured a clear jump-off and stopped the clock in 39.17 seconds.

Furthermore, also Christian Ahlmann amanaged to qualify for the jump-off with the HH Conrad Z daughter Blueberry. Ahlmann and Blueberry also managed to set a particularly fast time in 38.06 seconds, but an fault on the first element of the double combination ultimately kept them from a podium place and meant that they had to settle for 9th place in the rankings.
