Last weekend the Longines Global Champions Tour reached the 14th leg of the season and this took place in the Italian capital Rome. During the classes of the CSI5* competition, the American lady rider Paris Sellon managed to achieve some strong performances with her 10-year-old mare Attoucha, a daughter of our chestnut stallion Aganix du Seigneur Z and Diamant de Semilly, who was born at the home of breeders Gerry Marron and Luc Henry as Attoucha Hero Z. Sellon and Attoucha Hero Z made themselves heard for the first time on Saturday when they managed to achieve a 6th place during the 1.45m class, but kept the best result for during the 1.45m class on Sunday afternoon. In a class against the clock, they managed to reach the finish in 62.05 seconds and this performance earned them a nice 2nd place in the ranking.
The 4th place during this 1.45m class on Sunday went to the German rider Christian Ahlmann with our 9-year-old chestnut stallion Otterongo Alpha Z, the son of Darco and Hedjaz from the breeding farm of Jozef Poets. Ahlmann and Otterongo Alpha Z also managed to deliver a flawless performance here, but they crossed the finishline in 64.13 seconds.
The highlight of the weekend in Rome was of course the LGCT Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon and here the French rider Kevin Staut managed to jump to a top 10 ranking with the 10-year-old mare Beau de Laubry Z (Bisquet Balou van de Mispelaere x Nabab de Rêve – B: Haras De Laubry). Staut and Beau de Laubry Z were one of the 11 combinations that remained clear in the basic round and so managed to qualify for the jump-off. They also managed to set a good time in 42.15 seconds, but due to a fault along the way they ultimately had to settle for a 7th place in the ranking.
The qualifier for this LGCT Grand Prix already took place on Friday during the opening day and here the Irish rider Richard Howley secured a top ranking again with the 12-year-old gelding Consulent de Prelet Z, a son of Consulent Z and Fuego du Prelet who was bred in Slovakia by Svo Trans Feka and with whom Howley won a class in Dublin last month. Howley and Consulent de Prelet Z finished during this second round of the Global Champions League in 60.59 seconds and this performance earned them a 2nd place in the individual ranking.
Furthermore, in this class there was a 5th place for Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten with his 13-year-old top gelding Beauville Z (Bustique x Jumpy des Fontaines - B: Pascal Habet) and the American lady rider Laura Kraut followed in 6th place with the 9-year-old mare Bisquetta (Ex Bisquetta Squalls Estate Z – Bisquet Balou van de Mispelaere x Takashi van Berkenbroeck – B: Claire McCarthy-Winters).
Finally, it was also a successful weekend for the Brazilian rider Luiz Felipe Cortizo Goncalves de Azevedo with the also 9-year-old grey mare Sierra Du Piedroux Z (Scendix x Contefino – B: Claude Noirot). They achieved an 8th place during the 1.45m class on Saturday and a day later they secured a 10th place during the 1.50m class.
