Son of Codex One Z shines in the CSI5* Grand Prix at Dinard

At the very highest level, all eyes were on the magnificent Jumping International de Dinard last weekend, which has been part of the renowned Rolex Series since 2024. Christian Ahlmann also travelled to Brittany and put in a stunning performance in the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
The five-star show in Dinard is, of course, known worldwide for its striking pink colour, but the fantastic atmosphere also attracts a host of top riders and spectators to the French coastal town every year. The Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon was undoubtedly the highlight of the weekend and once again provided plenty of excitement and top-class sport. The 1.60m course, designed by French course designer Jean-François Morand, proved to be a tough challenge, as only four of the forty-one pairs managed to complete the round successfully. Among them were Christian Ahlmann and the 10-year-old chestnut stallion Sheeran WL, a son of our stallion Codex One Z and Mozart des Hayettes, bred by Sofia Abramovich. Ahlmann and Sheeran WL were the second pair to return to the arena, and once again they completed their round clear of faults. They finished in 49.08 seconds, ultimately securing a fantasticsecond place.
In addition to this outstanding performance in the Rolex Grand Prix, Christian Ahlmann also enjoyed another excellent show jumping weekend with our 7-year-old grey stallion Toèmme de Regor Z, the son of Chacco Blue and Cento, bred by the Veldeman family at Stal De Regor. Having already impressed in Riesenbeck two weeks ago with a win and a second place, the pair effortlessly continued their strong form last weekend. On Thursday, Ahlmann and Toèmme de Regor Z got off to a flying start with a resounding victory in the opening class, but they once again proved too strong for the competition in the final class on Saturday afternoon. In a jump-off for which fourteen pairs had qualified, they raced to the finish in 38.61 seconds, giving them a lead of well over half a second over their closest rivals. They had also secured asixth-place finish in Friday’s class.
Another standout pairing in the five-star competition were the Belgian rider Gudrun Patteet and her 11-year-old mare Sea Coast Chica V.V. Z, a daughter of Comme Il Faut and Chacco Blue, bred by Evelyne and Colin Van Vreckom. Patteet and Sea Coast Chica V.V. Z took to the arena three times and managed to secure a top-five placing on each occasion. They made it onto the podium with athird place in both the 1.45m class on Thursday and the 1.50m class on Saturday, whilst they tookfourth place in the 1.45m class on Friday.
In Thursday’s 1.45m opening class, Sea Coast Chica V.V. Z was not the only Z-class horse in the top three of the rankings. In second place were the speedy Luxembourger Victor Bettendorf and the 9-year-old mare Extasia Bella By Classic Z ( Emerald van ’t Ruytershof x Ultra Boy), bred by Cassandra Toni. With a finishing time of 33.28 seconds in thesecond phase, they fell just over half a second short of securing a blue-and-yellow victory.
Patteet’s compatriot Annelies Vorsselmans also secured a place on the podium with the 11-year-old mare C. Kulottie W Z (Comme Il Faut x Guidam), who was bred by P.H.B.M. van Wegen. During Saturday’s 1.50m class, they produced a flawless round, finishing in5th place.
Three-Star Competition
As well as the five-star competition, there was also a three-star event in Dinard, where several Z-class horses put in strong performances. One such horse was the 16-year-old gelding Fantasio Floreval Z, a son of Bazooka de Hus and Clinton, bred by Evelyne Pater. Ridden by the French rider Cedric Hurel, Fantasio Floreval Z had already secured9th place on Thursday in the 1.45m class, but their highlight of the weekend came during the CSI3* Grand Prix on Sunday. Hurel and Fantasio Floreval Z rode a clear round in the first round, putting them among the seventeen pairs who progressed to the jump-off. In the jump-off, they managed to repeat that flawless performance and, with a finishing time of 41.96 seconds, they too claimed the Grand Prix silver.
Butfourth place in this CSI3* Grand Prix was also coloured blue and yellow, thanks to the Swiss rider Martin Fuchs and the 10-year-old gelding Falcon du Toultia Z, a son of For Pleasure and Copin van de Broy, bred by Fabien Schreiber. Once again, they kept all the bars in place in the jump-off, but took 43.39 seconds to complete their round.
With two top-five placings, it was also a successful weekend for the French rider Megane Moissonnier and the equally 10-year-old gelding Kandoo Z (Kanann x Level Z – breeder: Hilary Parren). The pair got off to an excellent start on Thursday with athird place in the 1.45m class, whilst they were back in action the following day, securingfourth place in the 1.50m class.
In this 1.45m class on Thursday, Brazilian rider Luciana Diniz was also among the prize-winners with the 9-year-old chestnut mare Full Passion HH Z (For Pleasure x Ablesse – breeder: Housen New Nordic Horses BVBA). They produced a clear round, which ultimately secured themfifth place.
Last but not least, there was also success in Dinard for the line of Jenson van ’t Meulenhof Z, thanks to the French rider François Xavier Boudant and the 10-year-old gelding Quercus van den Oude Eik (Jenson van ’t Meulenhof Z x Darco – breeder: Gert Dierickx). They made their mark straight away on Thursday with asecond place in the 1.45m class, whilst on Sunday they rounded off the event in fine style with an impressivefifth place in the CSI3* Grand Prix.
