Three golds in Martofte

Portugal hosted the Lisbon CSIO last weekend, but Denmark also hosted a three-star Nations Cup in the past few days. The setting for that was Stud ASK in Martofte, where the next stage of the Longines EEF Series was on the programme. The Z-horses clearly made their mark on the competition, with no fewer than three resounding victories throughout the weekend.
The most talked-about victory came in the name of Belgian rider Brecht Goossens and his 11-year-old stallion Alaska Z, a son of the grey stallions Asca Z and Utrillo Z bred by Nicky Dilliën and Jean Jordens. The duo had a strong competition and crowned themselves winners of the 1.50m Grand Prix Qualifier on Saturday evening. In a jump-off for which 11 combinations qualified, they galloped to a convincing finishing time of 35.85 seconds, putting them almost one and a half seconds ahead of the competition.
A second blue/yellow victory went to Dutch rider Finn Boerekamp and the 11-year-old mare Lolandria Z, a breeding product of Stoeterij Oldenaller in the Netherlands combining the blood of Lux Z with that of Quidam de Revel. Boerekamp and Lolandria Z got off to an immediate flying start on Thursday by winning the 1.40m-high opening class. In both the 1st and 2nd phases, the duo neatly kept all obstacles in the scoops and with a finishing time of 38.83 seconds they managed to keep the competition narrowly behind them. During the following days Boerekamp and Lolandria Z also continued to perform strongly with two more podium places. They finished2nd in the 1.40m class on Friday and 3rd in the 1.45m class on Saturday.
British rider Holly Smith also managed to take a blue/yellow victory in Martofte. For this she could rely on the 8-year-old gelding Sing Z, a son of Copycat Z and PKZ Contact van de Heffinck from the breeding farm of Marcel Schrijvers. Smith and Sing Z were the best in the 1.40m class on Friday, where they were just under a full second ahead of the competition with a flawless round in 58.33 seconds. A day later, they confirmed this performance by finishing 7th in the Grand Prix Qualifier.
Two-star competition
However, in addition to the three-star competition, Martofte also saw jumping at two-star level, and in this too some Z-horses made their mark with great results. One of those horses was the 9-year-old gelding Donatello Z, a son of our black pearl Dominator 2000 Z and Bugatti VDL from the breeding farm of Linda Boelens in the Netherlands. Donatello Z appeared at the start under the saddle of Danish rider Benedikte Rie Truelsen and together they signed for a handsome 5th place in the CSI2* Grand Prix.
Another notable combination was Dutch rider Lars Kersten with the 9-year-old gelding Grimaldi van het Keizershof Z, a son of Grand Slam VDL and For Pleasure born to breeder Leon Otten. They made a first appearance on Friday with a2nd place in the 1.40m class and secured 8th place in the Grand Prix. In 36.15 seconds they managed to put the winning barracks time on the scoreboard, but a mistake on the way meant they had to settle for eighth place.
Finally, home rider Theodor Linde also managed two top 10 placings with 10-year-old mare Talinka de Quélennec Z (Taalex x Diamant de Semilly - breeder: Emmanuel Le Berre). Linde and Talinka de Quélennec Z opened with 8th place in the 1.40m-high opening class on Wednesday and jumped to 5th place in another 1.40m class on Friday.
