In recent days, the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona was once again the setting for the grand denouement of the Longines League of Nations, where the nine best national teams in the world competed against each other. Besides this prestigious Nations Final, however, there were plenty of other classes on the programme in Catalonia, where several Z-horses showed their class with strong and striking performances.
The most notable name among these was that of the 9-year-old stallion Kandoo Z, a son of Kannan and Level Z born to breeder Hilary Parren. Kandoo Z has been a combination with Frenchwoman Megane Moissonnier for a year now and together they had a top weekend with no fewer than three placings. The highlight came immediately on Thursday, when they won the 1.40m opening class. In both the1st and2nd phases, Moissonnier and Kandoo Z managed to stay neatly clear and with a finishing time of 36.53 seconds they proved just ten hundredths of a second faster than their closest competitors. The following days the duo confirmed this performance with a 4th place in the 1.45m class on Friday and an 8th place in the 1.50m Queen's Cup on Saturday.
During that Queen's Cup on Saturday, German rider Sophie Hinners also managed to jump into the spotlight with the 9-year-old mare Iron Dames Kaleni Jo, a daughter of Kannan and Indoctro who was born in the Netherlands at breeder Stal Verhoeven as Kaleni Jo SV Z. Hinners and her talented mare were among the top 12 combinations allowed to return for the 'Winning Round', in which they once again stayed clear. Their strong performance eventually earned them a handsome2nd place in this prestigious class.
In addition to her good performance with Kandoo Z, rider Megane Moissonnier also provided a strong performance with the 13-year-old stallion Crooner Tame, a son of our stallion HH Conrad Z and Quaprice Bois Margot out of the breeding of S.C.E.A. Brohier Denis. In the Grand Prix of the City of Barcelona on Friday evening, Moissonnier and Crooner Tame secured 4th place after keeping it neatly clear in both the first and second rounds.
Also in this CSIO5* Grand Prix, Brazilian rider Pedro Veniss achieved another top 10 finish with the 14-year-old chestnut gelding Nimrod de Muze Z Imperio Egipcio (Nabab de Rêve x Tinka's Boy - Breeder: Eric Polfliet). Veniss and Nimrod de Muze Z Imperio Egipcio managed to put a nice finish time on the scoreboard in 54.75 seconds during the decisive second round, but a mistake on the way eventually pushed them from 4th to 8th place.
